Summer Reading Activities set for June and July

School will soon be out, and we will be gearing up for a summer of fun with the Summer Reading Program at the Sikeston Public Library!

Join us as we visit the Wild World of Wildlife! We are planning a combination of face-to-face programming with Mrs. Lisa, combined with exciting guest presenters.

Our guest programs will be held during the month of June. On weeks where there is no guest presenter, Mrs. Lisa will read stories about animals around the world, followed by have snacks, crafts, and games.

Dates of our guest presenters include:

June 14th @ 10am and 1pm: Lazy L Safari: You will learn about endangered species and other exotic wildlife.  Presentations may include:  tortoise, hedgehog, birds, reptiles, and other small animals.  Biofacts may include: antlers, eggs (ostrich, emu, rhea), feathers, horns, quills, skulls and more!

June 21st @ 10am and 1pm: Animal Tales: Every single show is unique because the animals (unlike the presenters) don’t have a script! Be prepared to get up close and personal with animals from all over the world!

June 28th @10am and 1pm: Marty Hahne the Storytelling Magician: The “Those Amazing Animals” show is going to be lots of fun, with magic tricks involving all sorts of animal characters, including lions, tigers and bears! And, there’s not only magic, but lots of storytelling, so be prepared to use your imagination.

On weeks when we are not hosting a guest presenter, story times by age group are:

Entering kindergarten through second grades — Mondays at 1 p.m.
Entering third through fifth grade — Tuesdays at 1 p.m.
Preschool (ages 2-5) — Wednesdays at 10 a.m.

This project is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Missouri State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State.
