The Sikeston Public Library is seeking to fill two full-time positions for an Adult and Circulation Services Coordinator, and Circulation Clerk. We are seeking to fill these positions by late July or early August.

Positions will remain open until filled, but applications submitted by Thursday, July 3 will receive greater consideration.

Adult and Circulation Services Coordinator

The Sikeston Public Library is seeking to fill an opening for an Adult and Circulation Services Coordinator. The successful applicant is responsible for overseeing circulation operations and the oversight and implementation of adult programming, among other duties. Essential functions of this position include:

  • Performing work at the circulation desk for checking in and out library materials and issuing accounts to library users.
  • Assist library users in answering questions, locating, and obtaining materials.
  • Maintaining patron records, reviewing newly-issued patron cards for accuracy, deleting expired patron accounts, and maintaining completed acceptable use policies.
  • Coordinate internet access through the circulation desk.
  • Schedule and implement adult programming, including ongoing programming and special events.
  • Assist director in gathering information pertaining to circulation and programming.
  • Assist director with processing of new materials in preparation for entry into circulation system.
  • Recommend materials, procedures, and services to enhance use of the library.
  • In conjunction with the Children’s Librarian, oversee operations of the library in the absence of the director.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Applicants will meet the following qualifications for consideration:

  • Education: A bachelor’s degree required; preferred that the degree is in a related area such as library science, English, communications, or computer technology.
  • Experience: Library experience preferred; will accept technology experience or recent graduate of MLIS program in lieu of library experience.
  • Other qualifications: Must possess good interaction skills with people of all ages; advanced computer knowledge and skills; and good oral and written communication skills.

Work schedule includes one night per week, and one weekend per month.

Compensation commensurate with education and experience. Health insurance, retirement plan, vacation days, and sick leave are offered with this position.

 

Circulation Clerk

The circulation clerk performs activities associated with the circulation of materials, assists patrons in obtaining materials, and maintains the collection and its availability to the public. Essential functions of this position include:

    • Performing work at the circulation desk for checking in and out library materials and issuing accounts to library users.
    • Assisting library users in answering questions, locating, and obtaining materials.
    • Maintaining orderly condition of materials on shelves.
    • Contacting patrons when on-hold materials are received.
    • Performing accurate cash transactions.
    • Performing other duties as assigned.

Applicants will meet the following qualifications for consideration:

  • Education: High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Experience: Experience in library service or other work/volunteer experience requiring public service.
  • Competent in use of computers, including but not limited to Google apps and Microsoft Office apps.
  • Other qualifications: Must possess good interaction skills with people of all ages; advanced computer knowledge and skills; and good oral and written communication skills.

Work schedule includes one night per week, and one weekend per month. Compensation will be determined by library’s salary schedule. Health insurance, retirement plan, vacation days, and sick leave are offered with this position.
